IOWA CITY
Primary Night was a good night for most of the supervisor incumbents in Johnson and Washington counties.
But not all.
Royceann Porter, an Iowa City Democrat who was the first Black in Johnson County history to serve as Supervisor Chair in 2023, lost out Tuesday in her bid to secure another four-year term.
Incumbents winning Primary races included Rod Sullivan and Lisa Green-Douglass in the Johnson County Democrat Supervisor race, and Bob Yoder of Kalona, Jack Seward Jr. and Stan Stoops in the Washington County Republican Supervisor race.
No Republicans filed for the Johnson County Primary and no Democrats filed for the Washington County Primary.
Yoder defeated Jacob Snider, the Mid-Prairie School Board President, by nearly 100 votes, 150-49, in the District 2 race.
Seward and Stopps ran unopposed.
Sullivan, the current Johnson County Supervisor Chair, led the way with 4,263 votes.
Green-Douglass was runner-up with 3,925 votes and Remington, who fell short previously in a run at a spot on the Iowa City Council, was third with 3,820. Porter finished nearly 900 votes back of Remington. Bob Conrad, an Iowa State Trooper, was fifth with 2,387 votes.
Three of the five Johnson County Supervisor seats are up for election in November, but all of the filers for the Primary were Democrats.
Johnson County Sheriff Brad Kunkel, running unopposed, totaled 5,791 votes in the Democratic Primary. Johnson County Auditor Travis Weipert, also running unopposed, totaled 5,962 votes.
Among the other Primary winners was Mariannette Miller-Meeks, who is seeking her third term in the U.S. House. She won the Republican Primary, but lost Washington County to David Pautsch, 350-324. Miller-Meeks will face Democrat Christina Bohannan in November.
