FAIRFIELD

Mid-Prairie’s girls basketball team began its season with a bang Tuesday in Fairfield.

The Golden Hawks drilled Fairfield 73-26, posting their biggest one-sided win in four years and their best defensive effort in nearly two years.

Brooklyn Schneider, a sophomore guard, scored a game-high 14 points for the Golden Hawks and freshman guard Jeorgia Evans scored 13 points in her high school debut and did not miss a shot.

Mid-Prairie shut out Fairfield in the fourth quarter.

Evans and Schneider each had 5 steals, and senior center Callie Huber had 11 rebounds.

Jovi Evans, a junior guard, did not play because she has left the team to concentrate on volleyball. She was one of the top volleyball players in the state for the Golden Hawks from her setter and attacker positions.

A Look Ahead

Dec. 3: Mid-Prairie at Benton Community, 6:30 p.m.

Series: Benton leads, 3-0

Scouting Benton: The Bobcats are coming off an 18-win season in which they reached the state quarterfinals in Class 3A. They lost four starters off that team with junior G Aubrey Kelley being the only returnee.

Notable: This game will be the season opener for Benton.

Key stat: Mid-Prairie’s Huber had a game-high and career-high 11 rebounds in last year’s 66-45 loss against Benton. Both Huber and senior teammate Brylee Gearhart are over 6 feet tall; Benton’s tallest player is 5-11.

Dec. 6: Camanche at Mid-Prairie, 6 p.m.

Series: Camanche leads, 6-3

Scouting Camanche: Senior guards Jeorgia Neumann, Zoie Vogel and Chloe Lafollette-Wills return for a team that won six games last year.
